Eldora Speedway Weather Tends To Change On A Whim At Times

By Ina Hunt

There are many people who simply cannot resist the urge not to go to watch cars and trucks racing around and around. When these events come up one will want to know what it will be like outside. At the Eldora Speedway weather bulletins are updated regularly so that you will know whether to bring an umbrella or not.

The Big E is located in Ohio and is a half a mile clay oval and has a seating capacity of nearly 20 000. It hosts many well known races and "The World 100" attracts over 200 dirt racers. They will have as many as four different events in one night and if the same driver wins all four he will then earn a special bonus.

The idea of this kind of racing came about in 1993. A group of racers wanted a bigger audience and they then produced a prototype for a NASCAR style truck. It was first shown during the Daytona 500 in 1994 and four other demonstrations were held during the season. These forms of racing became very popular with the public and eventually lead to the creation of the series known as SuperTruck.

There are normally five heats that are run in the Nascar series and there are 25 trucks involved. Any driver that did not advance then automatically did not receive any participation points. This has all changed and the distance of 5 heats has now been changed to either eight or ten laps. A random draw is now used to see the qualifying order. Before this was done according to the speeds raced in the practice round. Another point that has been reviewed is that if one wishes to make a pit stop they can, they are no longer mandatory.

The Nationwide Series promotes the minor league circuit. This is considered a way to prove that one is able to move up to the big leagues. These were previously named the NASCAR Busch Series. In 2006 the sponsors announced that they were not going to carry on sponsoring this series and Nationwide Insurance took over. They would then increase their involvement and offer car as well as track sponsorship.

Three years after the first race took place the first Eldora 500 began. It had 33 sprint cars and they had to do 500 laps. In 1967 he had already promoted seven other tracks and the 500 lap race fell away. In 1971 he held the World 100 and offered a $4.000 prize to the winner. Bruce Gould won and the event is now considered to have been the birth of the modern type of racing we are used to today.

The World 100 is normally run on the weekend following Labour Day and the winner will walk away with $46.000 as well as a pair of globed trophies. The reason two are given out is so that the winner can keep a trophy as well as the owner of the car. Billy Moyer still holds the most wins standing at 6 championships. These are divided into two segments. Sixteen drivers are selected based on their wins in the first 26 races and are then allowed to compete in the last 10. In 2009 there were about 16 million viewers watching.

For every driver that participates in the Eldora Speedway, weather plays a crucial part. Depending on what the weather will be the day of the race, which tire to be used will need to be considered. Without this prior knowledge it could mean a win or a loose.
