Backpacking falls among outdoor recreational activities. Like the name suggests, people carry their gear in a backpack. However, it must involve spending a minimum of one night outside for it to be called backpacking. Long trips involve regular resupply.

People engage in this activity for different reasons. Good backpackers are conscious of the environment and ensure that their activities cause as little pollution as possible. In an attempt to achieve this, some stay in established trails, carry garbage out and avoid disturbing vegetation. Myanmar backpacking culture is very advanced and people ensure that they follow the leave no trace movement ethos.

The activities and journey of hikers are directed by the contents of the movement ethos. The movement ethos requires hikers to only leave footprints, only take photos, keep nothing, and only kill time. As a backpackers, encountering difficulties along the journey should be anticipated. There are different forms of difficulties in including difficult terrains, dangerous animals, adverse weather, treacherous water crossings, and heights among many others. It takes a great deal of skills and a suitable survival gear to make through the experience successfully without harm.

Some sites have grounds where backpackers can spend the night and some time during their adventure. Most campsites have things like maps of the area, fire rings, outhouses, and wooden bulletin boards. Campsites are level patches of ground that mostly lack underbrush. Such campsites lack in very remote areas and backpackers have to find their own places to sleep and rest.

There are certain pieces of equipment that are needed for successful backpacking. A backpack tops the list of necessities. The choice of backpack should be based on suitability for the exercise in terms of size, fit, material, and utility. The choice of a backpack is followed by the choice of footwear and clothing. This may be dictated by the kind of conditions expected and period of stay. A sleeping bag and food are also necessary. Survival skills and kit complete the list of necessities.

A shelter may also be needed, but some backpackers dot not bring one. Other necessities such as water container, cook kit, and a means of purifying water may be needed. If the trip is short and confined to areas where food can be accessed easily, it may not be necessary to carry food. If one has to carry food, they carry it in ready-made form.

The weight of a backpack is of great importance in this exercise. The weight must never exceed 25 percent of what the carrier weighs. Therefore every item packed should be assessed for relevance a lot. One can find lightweight gear on modern markets, but at high costs.

Lightweight gear is made in a way as not to compromise durability or utility. Most of the lightweight products are made using specialty plastics, impregnated fabrics, lightweight alloys, and carbon fiber among other materials. The exercise of backpacking varies from one country to another, with more common factors among Western countries.
