Places To Visit On Wine Tours Dahlonega GA

By Harold Baker

Ask anyone in the United States what they think of when they hear the words "wine country" and most will say California. Yes, the Sonoma Valley is ripe with wineries, but it is far from the only place in the country to go on tours. If you are on the east coast or somewhere west and want a change of pace, you can and should consider Wine Tours Dahlonega GA as a wonderful change of pace.

Nestled in the foothills of northern Georgia, the Dahlonega area is known for its fertile valleys, which allow for the perfect weather for growing grapes. There are six wineries in all, and even more tasting rooms all over the area carrying the many bottles and labels from these local makers. Overall, there are 100 acres in the area growing grapes.

Cavender Creek, located at 3610 Cavender Creek Road, is the newest kid on the winery block, but don't let their youth fool you. They produce 1,400 cases per year on average, each of which is carefully handcrafted for quality instead of quantity. You can find Petit Manseng, American Norton and cabernet sauvignon among other varietals.

Formerly known as the Blackstock Vineyards, the Kaya Vineyard & Winery has reopened and re-branded at 5400 Town Creek Road. It is the largest in the region, and has a meeting/party space that can hold up to 300 people for large conferences or weddings, in addition to a behemoth 2,000 square foot covered deck usable in all seasons with live music. The tasting room has massive 12 feet windows that give you breathtaking views of the local foothills.

Montaluce Winery & Estates, 501 Hightower Church Road, has a whopping 25,000 square foot facility that is shaped like a Tuscan villa to give you a real sense of place. They can hold weddings and other events, and have daily wine tastings and free tours of the grounds for visitors.

If you value food as much as you do wine, try the Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery, which features the cuisines of the south as well as Europe. The dishes they serve at this winery, located at 180 Wolf Mountain Trail, pairs their own wines with the meals for a satisfying and delicious experience. They also feature their famous Champenoise sparkling wine and will proudly and humbly tell you about the over 150 medals they have won in local and nationwide competitions.

Located at 439 Vineyard Way, the Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery has a whole lot to offer. They produce up to 4,000 cases of each of the many vintages they offer, so they always have plenty to pour and try at their crash pad deck or rock wall patio, both of which are comfortable for sitting and sipping. They have won over 150 medals and counting from national and local wine competitions, so do not sleep on this 184 acre behemoth of a winery.

For lots of selection, look no further than the 25 grape varieties grown at Frogtown Cellars, 700 Ridge Point Drive. Though smaller than others at 57 acres, it packs a punch, having a tri-level flow winery and a huge event facility for parties and weddings. It is also the most awarded vineyard in the area, meaning you always get a quality pour.
