There are many people who are prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. The reason could be a natural disaster, possible terrorist attack, foreign invasion, or collapse of our government. If you find yourself needing to run and in a hurry, you should have these important bug out bag supplies packed and ready to go. The idea is to have enough supplies to last three days not for long term survival. Just enough time to get you to a safe place or for rescue to arrive.
Clean drinking water is vital and sometimes overlooked. A person needs at the least, one liter per day. Have at least three liters in each pack. Also, it is important to have options available. Have iodine tablets and a small kettle or pot for boiling water. You will use the pot for cooking also.
Next item to consider is food. Camping and backpacking meals are easy to find at most stores and on the internet. Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) are packaged meals developed for the military and can be eaten cold or hot. Add protein bars, nuts, and even some hard candy to your supplies.
You will need to have clothing that you would wear while camping or backpacking ready also. Have a pair of sturdy boots or shoes sitting next to your pack so you can put them on as you evacuate. You also need to have two shirts for layering, a jacket that will keep you warm and protect you from the rain, a hat and bandana, two pairs of socks, and warm long underwear.
Have a tent or tarp along with a way to set up in your kit. You need to stay warm and dry to remember to also have a sleeping pad or good ground tarp included. These items will be useful if you have to stay out longer than three days. Don't forget a good bedroll or sleeping bag.
A first aid kit put together by you may save your life. So put in it everything you could possible need. Items such as prescription medications, sun block, instant cold packs and hot packs, plus allergy and diarrhea tablets, and aspirin will go a long way.
You might be thinking that is all you need, but no, there are more items that are also vital to survival. Such as a hatchet for cutting firewood, a knife for all kinds of uses, a small pot or large cup for boiling water to drink or heat food. You also need matches, a lighter, and know how to start a fire without either.
Hopefully you will never need to use your bag. However, you do not want to find yourself unprepared. Be certain to include the listed items first, then add to them anything else you can carry and feel you will need to make it through three days or longer if needed. Having these few items can save your life.
