Dominican Republic Airport Transfers Make Your Holiday A Breeze

By Catalina Nielsen

A Caribbean holiday is just what you need if you love tropical beaches and warm, sultry nights. Most countries in the Caribbean are either English or French speaking. However, the best way to enjoy balmy nights is to combine it with some Latin flavor. Dominican Republic airport transfers make it easier than ever to have an unforgettable break in the tropics without the stress of getting to and from your destination.

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest Caribbean nations. It covers the eastern part of Hispaniola, a large island that it shares with Haiti. Puerto Rico and other popular holiday destinations like Martinique, St Lucia and the Virgin Islands lie to the east and south-east of Hispaniola while Cuba and Jamaica lie to the north-west and the west, respectively.

The climate is tropical for the most part, especially in the lowlands and along the coast. This makes the nation the ideal place to visit if you love the beach. The beaches are stunning with their white sand, palm trees waving in the breeze and clear, warm water. Punta Cana is among the most popular and famous beach resorts but you'll also find spectacular beaches and dive sites elsewhere along the coast and in the offshore cays.

The Dominican Republic is not only about sun, sand and ocean, however. It's a prime eco-tourism and adventure destination with great biodiversity. The mountainous interior with Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean, is great for trekking and mountain climbing. Several rivers offer rafting opportunities and the valleys and plains are perfect for horseback adventures or Jeep safaris. One of the best places to go for wildlife spotting is Lago Enriquillo, which is a salty lake far below sea level and the lowest location in the Caribbean.

No holiday is complete without a few nights on the town. If the country's balmy climate isn't enough to get you dancing, the music surely will. The rhythms of merengue were invented here and since this is a Latin American nation, you'll also find plenty of salsa and cumbia to shake your hips to. If you prefer other forms of excitement, there are many casinos where you can try your luck.

Sports lovers won't be bored in the Dominican Republic either. It's a major destination for golfers, with some fantastic courses where you can tee off. This is also a great place to catch a ball game, with baseball almost having the status of a religion. Boxing and basketball are popular too. However, if sports aren't your thing, you'll find many fascinating museums and historical sights to explore.

The country has seven international airports, of which Punta Cana is the busiest, followed by Las Americas near Santo Domingo, the national capital. A variety of airlines fly to the Dominican Republic from destinations all over the United States, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. In high season, you'll also be able to catch charter flights from many other airports.

Local hotels don't usually have their own shuttle services to and from the airports. To get to your accommodation once your flight has landed, you can get a taxi outside the arrivals hall. An easier and often much more economical option, however, is to go online before your flight and book with one of the companies that offer Dominican Republic airport transfers.
