Why Boca Raton Florida Is A Safe City

By Jozy Mozen

Boca Raton Florida has an excellent reputation for being a safe city to live in. The police force and fire department work independently and together to assure the citizens that they can sleep without fear of personal and community disasters. They each have community ties and programs that work as partnerships and volunteer systems that keep crime at a minimum.

This city boasts a crime rate that is lower than national and state averages especially in violent crime categories. This high rating has been continuous for several years and shows no signs of change in the near future. The low crime rate can be attributed to community involvement and several specialized programs designed to keep the citizens safe from criminals as well as other disasters.

The police officers on the force receive extensive training for their jobs. There are several departments and each member an expert in his department. They have a Volunteer force that assists with non-dangerous tasks and they also undergo training before they are assigned to their jobs. The volunteers handle finger printing, walking patrols, parking infractions and some clerical work freeing up officers for other duties.

Two of the more successful programs are the Volunteer program that involves citizens who, after training, relieve full time officers of time consuming chores such as finger printing, parking control and foot patrols. The second is the VIPER program that includes police, citizens, outside law agencies and the highest technology available to protect the people they serve.

The Volunteer Forces are trained in various duties that help support the police in their jobs and the Viper program combines all of the technology and skills available with Community, other police agencies, local businesses and education to enhance the success of the mission. They have installed cameras on streets to help survey and identify trouble if it erupts.

Fire and rescue departments are also very involved with the community. A special team puts together and presents safety programs for schools and private organizations. They try to highlight smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as other potential fire hazards to groups of people. They also advise people of medical dangers such as falls in seniors or securing cupboards from access by babies.

With eight fire stations spread out across the city the citizens can be assured of a very fast response regardless of what the problem may be. Each station houses an EMS unit that acts as a first responder for medical emergencies. They usually arrive ahead of the ambulance and begin emergency treatment when necessary. There are nineteen EMS units available and seven of them are able to transport victims. Each vehicle is manned by two people with paramedical training to assist in even the largest disasters such as hurricanes.

The fire and police departments dedication to the people they serve can be seen in the time and energy that these men and women put into reaching the community. They use every tool available to ensure safe and peaceful living for their residents and business owners. The combination of these two agencies and the population that is involved in safeguarding this city it may seem as though the entire populace is involved in keeping this a safe place to live.
