EMT training programs differ in terms of the time it takes to complete them. Fast track programs for basic EMT courses can be completed within 2 weeks if you attend classes for 8 to 12 hours daily. On the other hand, some programs can only be within a few months or years.

The components of the EMT course include didactic education, clinical rotations and final testing. Didactic education includes hands on skills training. Students learn how to care for patients through interactive presentations, lectures, simulations and skills labs. Clinical rotations are a little bit similar to the clinical rotations that medical school students go through. EMT students spend a certain amount of time in ambulances and various hospital services like surgery, emergency medicine and obstetrics in order to complete the course and qualify for the certification examination.
