Visit The Real Peru On An Adventure Tour

By Jay Dy

Peru in Western South America is paradise for anyone considering Peru adventure tours. The country can boast three distinct areas, but also very different geographical terrains. The Pacific Ocean lies to the west and is a narrow strip of mainly arid plains with a number of valleys that turn to rivers during the rainy season. The Andes Mountains runs parallel to the ocean and provides the highest point in the country. Finally, you can sample excursions into the Amazon rain-forest which accounts for around 60% of the country.

Visitors to Peru have the opportunity to sign up for a varied range of adventure tours that last anywhere from 2 days, 1 night, up to 15 days, 14 nights. Each tour itinerary is packed with a variety of activities that allow guests to experience the real Peru. However, guests can relax and enjoy a touch of luxury when it comes to their overnight accommodation.

You can expect to be accompanied by local tour guides. You can expect your guide to be knowledgeable about the history of their country and the customs of the Inca people. Many of the local guides speak several languages, and have no problem in communicating with individuals from different countries.

Hiking is a prerequisite of all the tours and tourists need to have the appropriate footwear and clothing for their trek. Visitors booking individual tours or a full adventure holiday should ensure that they read all the relevant advice and information. Many tours may not be suitable for people with mobility problems, or anyone unused to fairly strenuous exercise.

An excursion to Inca market in the town of Pisac provides visitors with the opportunity to barter for local products to take home as gifts or reminders of their holiday. The market is on three days, but visiting on a Sunday allows visitors to witness the local dignitaries and Mayors from the villages in the region dressed in their full regalia for Sunday mass. Visitors can then hike up to ruins at the top of the hill.

In addition to many hiking tours, visitors on the excursion to Lamay will have the opportunity to walk over the Lamay bridge. A hike up to the historical ruins above the village is considered very strenuous and usually takes around two and a half hours. The excursion party then hikes past the ruins and a reservoir and then on down to Calca.

For those who want to experience a trip through the Rio Grande and meet the locals in their natural habitats, they can do so on horseback. Apart from the spectacular scenery, the excursion allows visitors to study and photograph all the unique flowers and plant life. A visit to Pichingote, allows visitors see the houses built into the rock face that are still occupied by the villagers today.

There are a variety of Peru adventure tour options for visitors. The more strenuous excursions include river rafting, mountain climbing and trekking through some of the most scenic country you will find anywhere in the world. After a hard day, the opportunities for relaxation and excellent cuisine are readily available.
