Getting The Most From The Best All Inclusive Resorts In Puerto Plata

By Arline Bradley

Puerto Plata is the capital city of the province bearing the same name in the Dominican Republic. A hugely popular resort town, there are 100,000 hotel rooms. In a market this size, how do find the best all inclusive resorts in Puerto Plata?

The two biggest resort towns are Costa Dorada and Playa Dorada. Playa Dorada is situated right on the beach, while Costa Dorada is a few minutes' drive inland. Both are handy for the local International Airport, which is a hop and a jump from the vacation district.

The advantage of an all-inclusive plan is that the customer pays a single rate. In return, all three meals a day are included, together with beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic). Gratuities are also included. Many holiday spots offer certain sports in the package. A variation on this theme, the all-inclusive destination report, is similar to a cruise ship. Here, entertainment and shopping are offer. Guests find everything they need right on their doorstep.

These types of plans are perfect for couples that have children. The kids get involved with organized play activities while Mom and Dad top up their suntans or enjoy a bit of shopping. It's the perfect, one-size-fits-all arrangement for people who want to stay in one place. For those who are feeling more adventurous, there is plenty to see and do on this side of the island.

If you feel like getting out and stretching your legs, there is a Puerto Plata City Tour that includes a thrilling cable car ride to Isabel de Torres Mountain. Among the landmarks on the tour are the Dominican Amber Museum and the Brugal Rum Center. There is also an opportunity to view San Felipe Fort, one of Puerta Plata's oldest buildings.

Amber is a type of fossil in which resin from certain trees is exposed to extremes in temperature and/or pressure. Encased within the fossilized resin are often insects and other wildlife. The amber that is found in the Dominican Republic is rich in these organisms. As a result, scientists have been able to map out the ecosystem of the ancient tropical forest. The Dominican Amber Museum houses specimens of amber, a semi-precious gem.

The Dominican Republic is the birthplace of Brugal Rum, which was introduced to the rum-drinking community in 1888 by the Spaniard Andres Brugal Montaner. Because of the difficult terrain surrounding the factory, the original wooden wagon is used to transfer the cane sugar juice. The factory is open to the public.

One of the advantages of an all inclusive plan is it makes for ease of budgeting. By playing one price for all meals, beverages, gratuities and other amenities, all the traveler has to plan for is extra shopping, tours and activities. There is a lot more to the island of Hispaniola than rooms and restaurants. There are tours, cable car rides, museums, forts and a rum factory to visit.
