The city of Detroit is a hard working and hard playing town. Thanks to its huge and bustling population, Detroit knows how to deliver fun to its residents and visitors. There are many theme parks in Detroit to spend a thrilling day at, with a few offering some historic features also.
Stagecoach Stop USA
This is among the top theme parks in Detroit, thanks to its unique theme of the old West. This western city attraction is packed with all the expected Western themes,eg gunfight shows, duels, taverns serving old time sarsaparilla root lager, and stagecoach rides. While it is around an hour drive from the Metro Detroit area, it is certain to provide at least a half days worth of good old skool entertainment. The park latterly closed its petting zoo and rides, however it still is open on the end of the week. The park can be reached at 517-467-2300.
Cedar Point
One of the bigger entertainment parks near Detroit, Cedar Point is a very popular stop for amusement and theme park guests. This is because it is not only packed full of great rides and rollercoasters (it has the biggest selection of any park in the whole world), but also can include one of the best Detroit water parks. This amusement park is of historic import as well because it happens to be the second oldest amusement park in the United States. It is found on the fringe of Lake Eerie, offering great views of the Lake from the park's tallest rollercoaster, the Magnum. It's a fun park to visit with the entire family, containing many beautifully landscaped areas, water rides, food, drink, ice-skating shows children's areas and souvenir outlets. In 2007, the park built their newest ride, the Maverick, a 4,450 foot long coaster which features a 95 degree drop, many tunnels and twisted turns. Although it is about a 2 hour drive from the city, it is certainly worth the trip!
Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad
This is a complete hamlet of 35 historic buildings constructed in the theme of a 19th century village. With a working locomotive offering train rides to children. This theme park has many attractions consistent with the 1800s; crafts people demonstrating candlestick making, woodworking, metal smithing, craft classes, opera house shows, mock school classrooms and more. There's also a totally functioning historic carousel, as well as gondola rides and the Genesee Belle, a genuine paddle boat on which visitors can take short rides on the stream. All of the costumed citizens make visiting this attraction a very unique step into older, easier times.
Michigan's Adventure and WildWater Adventure
One of the greatest Detroit water parks, Michigan's Adventure also has many high octane roller coasters and is one of the largest parks in the area. There are many great attractions in the park for youngsters, teens and thrill hunters of every age. Some of the more assertive rides include Cyclone Zone, Snake Pit, Corkscrew and Thunderhawk that reach high speeds and aren't for youngsters or the faint of heart. The roller coaster thrill rides are a part of Michigan's Journey, while the water rides are a part of Wildwater Adventure, one of the Detroit water parks. The parks are separate but offer interesting rates for residents or visitors who need to have a thrill-filled weekend.
