Choosing A Great Florida Concealed Weapons Permit Class

By Tameka Ware

Any law abiding residents of Florida are entitled to apply to the correct department for a license to carry a hidden weapon for self-defense. To qualify for this permit, a minimum four hour training program is required. Such courses are available from reputable facilities who offer a Florida concealed weapons permit class to residents of the state.

The Jack Hagler Self-defense legislation covers electronic devices, billies, tear gas guns, knives and handguns. Florida statute Section 790 defines a hidden weapon as being carried in the kind of way that conceals it from public sight. Being licensed to carry such weapons concealed on the person does not authorize their use, which is regulated by some other provisions that Florida laws have.

There are several places where it is prohibited to carry a weapon, even with a license. These include any sheriff or even highway patrol stations; detention facilities, or courthouse and any elementary or secondary college, school, or university. Any part of the sort of establishment that is licensed to supply alcoholic beverages and inside the sterile area and passenger terminal of an airport are also excluded.

State law only offers protection to those acting with deadly force in accordance with "Castle Doctrine" legislation on self-defense. Private Citizens are limited only to use force equivalent to that used by a felon. At home or work there is no duty to retreat and the holder has a legal right to stand their ground and meet force with equal force to prevent the commission of forcible felonies including kidnapping, rape, burglary or robbery, or if faced with the threat of bodily harm, as well as death.

Concealed weapons permit classes should comprise of elements including firearm safety guidelines (such as how to store ammunition separately from the handgun, using a trigger locking device, and never storing a loaded weapon), shooting techniques and self-defense law. Gun shows will often offer walk-in classes. License holders should educate their household regularly and emphasize the dangers of a weapon.

Concealed weapons license applications can be made on-line or at regional offices. Licenses issued since June 11th 2011 are now valid for seven years and can be renewed if expired for less than six months. A new application is needed for licenses any further out of date.

Background checks but not NCIS checks are carried out. The license costs one $117. Certified fingerprint sheets and verification of satisfactory training are needed. Applicants must be twenty one or over. Felons will not be considered.

Even when a Florida concealed weapons permit class has been completed and a license granted, the holder does not become a lawyer or a cop. Training in the law relating to self-defense is essential. More training makes people that are licensed less likely to actually fire a gun.
