Koh Samui Is The Classic Tropical Island Paradise

By Steven M Slade

Koh Samui is the third largest island in Thailand, and one of the most beautiful. The island is situated in the Gulf of Thailand approximately 700km south of Bangkok and approximately 80 km east of the South Thailand coast. The island has been incredibly popular with visitors to Thailand for many years, and many people rent villas, stay in resorts or simple bamboo huts during their holiday on Koh Samui.

As Koh Samui is a large island, there is something for everyone with commercial beaches, as well as more laid back and quiet beaches. There are also beaches that cater for the backpacker crowd. Koh Samui is the classic paradise island with palm fringed beaches and beautiful crystal clear blue waters.

The most popular and busiest beach on the island is Chaweng Beach. It is seven kilometers long and has white powder sand. It is perfect for swimming, sun-bathing and water sports during the day, and if you like to let your hair down there are plenty of bars and nightclubs on the main street just up from the beach. There are also many excellent restaurants that serves spicy Thai cuisine and food from all over the world. There is plenty of accommodation on the beach from backpacker orientated bungalows to expensive resorts. It is even possible to rent a villa on the beach.

Mae Nam Bophut, Bang Rak (Big Buddha) and Choeng Mon are much quieter options than Chaweng. These beaches is also absolutely stunning and there is no shortage of places to stay. So if you want a more authentic Thai experience, do not want to party all night or just want to have some beach to yourself then these beaches are worth checking out.

There are plenty of attractions on Koh Samui aside from the beaches. You can easily rent a scooter on the island, which makes the interior more accessible and is a great way to explore.

One temple that is a must see is Wat Phraya, which is also called the Big Buddha Temple. This stunning temple is a classic Thai Buddhist wat and contains a 15 meter high statue of the Buddha. Another fantastic temple is Wat Khunaram that contains a mummified monk!

There is plenty for everyone to enjoy on the island of Koh Samui, with a multitude of water-sport activities, swimming, diving, snorkeling and much more. There is plenty of accommodation on the island that will suit all budgets. From long term holiday rental, villas, bungalows and much more. Do an online search and start planning your vacation on this beautiful island.
