The advantages and disadvantages of choosing South Africa for your pleasure trips.

By Alison Moser

If you're wanting to escape from it all with a trip away from home, do not forget to go smart. Select a location that can offer variety, like South Africa , and maximise your odds of having a good trip with the following traveling hints.

SA is truly the land of diversity. You go from beautiful uncontaminated white beaches, to rolling winelands, arid Karoo and awe-inspiring mountains. There are eleven official languages and every area has its own set of customs and principles. A family vacation in S. A. is a brilliant idea because it is possible to do all sorts of things, from peaceable whale-watching for the parents to going on a sidecar motorbike adventure for the young adult family members or stroking tame cheetah's for the kids.

SA is among the largest wildlife tourist destinations as it offers a genuine wildlife experience but also all the comfort and safety of a country that enjoys a sound financial standing. The 5 star reserves offer the best cuisine and the Kruger National Park is world famous for its adventuresome open jeep safaris where the ranger takes you in just arm's reach of the wild animals.

You really should also go see the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, formerly known as St Lucia Wetland park which is found along the coast of the Kwazulu Natal. The name means "miracle and wonder" and it's phenomenally attractive since it is one of the most monumental shores to be seen . It is a stretch 280km long and is the 3rd biggest natural reserve in SA, measuring 3 280 km / square. It's absolutely uncontaminated and home to crocodiles, hippos, turtles and whales in season. In the Eastern Cape you can stop at the Addo Elephant Park, which is home to some 450 elephants. You can view the big five here too, as well as whales and great white sharks. This park has recently expanded and now covers 444 700 acres, stretching as far up as the semi-arid Karoo area around Darlington Dam. The 1st area was opened in 1931, when only 16 elephants stayed in the area. Now it is a perfect ecological system and sanctuary.

When booking your holidays to South Africa do not forget that many lodges offer spa treatments which frequently include afull body massage out in the open using products that are part of the South African healing tradition like Rooibos, Marula, Aloe Vera and African potato extracts. The contact with nature, coupled with a healing touch and natural treatments will be the best way to get your body and your intellect feeling totally recharged and focused.

The climate in S. A. is temperate all the year round as it lies the same distance from the equator as the warmer Western european states, only on the other side! Ever had New Year's on the beach? It is a superb experience. The residents call it simply "season'. It's "season" when you are in the middle of the summer and having X-mas and New Year, all in one go! In some areas there' is sun on average 300 days of the year.
