By Linda Patterson

Whenever Mayan Temples is the topic of any conversation, usually people would think of the Mayan Ruins. Actually Mayan Temples are just part of the Ruins. It is the sacred place for the Gods, where the kings would think and make his important decisions and where the philosophers meet fellow philosophers. There are several Mayan temples that you can find such as Temple of Kukulcan in Chichen Itza, Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, Coba Temple in Coba, and Temple I in Tikal. People think that temples were not a big factor in the religious ceremonies but it should be known that all of these played an important function role with distinct applications and purposes.

The Mayan Temple of Kukulcan

It is the Mayan Ruins that are famous but the pyramids in the Chichen Itza are one of the reasons why it became known to the Seven Wonders of the World. You will find in Chichen Itza, Temple of Kukulcan or El Castillo which the Mayas built the in honor of the serpent deity. The design of the pyramid has an image of a snake slithering down the side of the 365 steps towards the head of the feathered serpent at the bottom carved in stone during the spring and fall equinox which was designed intentionally by them to honor Kukulcan.

The Temple Of Inscriptions

In Palenque in the state of Chiapas Mexico, the Temple of Inscription is known to be the largest. You will find stone slabs that have inscriptions on it in this temple. Next to Copan, this is the second largest hieroglyphics found in the World of Mayas. The tomb that has been found inside it is one of the most interesting features about this temple. When compared to the ones usually found in Egypt, the temples of the Mayas do not contain a tomb inside it. The sarcophagus of Pakal the Great was found inside of it. He was considered to the most influential individual in Palenque.

The Temple I

The TempleI is a limestone pyramid shaped structure that is located in Tikal which is one of the largest cities in Mesoamerica. This temple otherwise known as the Temple of the Great Jaguar is located in Peten Basin region in Northern Guatemala. It is one of the important temples because of accounts of inter-civilization.
